A magnificent Country Estate on the shore of Derwent water (30mins away). Once the home of Beatrix Potter, it now boasts a fine cafe, walled kitchen garden, and lovely grounds. A great way to spend a morning coupled with a walk on the shore of Derwent and a Steamer ride around the Lake.

(Portinscale). Possibly our favourite place to go for breakfast/ lunch in Cumbria. Best enjoyed after hiking up Catbells or just to visit their resident Lamars! Famous as a Summer resting place for Beatrix Potter, Lingholm’s location is worth a visit in itself. Park here for routes up to Catbells (worth the £5 if you eat in the cafe afterwards as you get reimbursed.)

This beautiful estate perfectly sums up the “chocolate box Lake District”, and as well as being a great place to start stunning walks, the cafe is also excellent. They use local produce (including from their own kitchen garden which inspired Beatrix Potter’s Mr McGregor!) and always produce food that is interesting and tasty. You can’t pre-book, so in our experience we would recommend that you arrive just before popular eating times to guarantee a seat. Ideal for families and everyone. An absolute must in good weather!! Takes about 25mins in the car from our property.

The grounds of the estate have a cafe with lovely food, a walled garden and access to paths for Catbells and many other hills. Could be used as a lunch stop on route around Derwentwater. Dogs are very welcome even on rainy days
