This is our local village pub, the food is good and the atmosphere is always excellent. Plenty of outside seating if the weather is good (in the summer they have a fantastic sandpit and beer garden with toys for kids), and very cosy with open fires in the winter.

The Boot & Shoe Inn

Pre-booking as far in advance as possible is a must as this pub is AMAZING for food. It has featured in the michelin food guide multiple times (including 2020 and 2021) and offers the very best of local cuisine. It was awarded 1 Michelin star in 2022 ⭐️
I wouldn’t recommend for young families, but ideal for couples and adult groups. Unfortunately it is just setting for meals and not drinks.

The Dog and Gun Inn
Pre-booking as far in advance as possible is a must as this pub is AMAZING for food. It has featured in the michelin food guide multiple times (including 2020 and 2021) and offers the very best of local cuisine. It was awarded 1 Michelin star in 2022 ⭐️
I wouldn’t recommend for young families, but ideal for couples and adult groups. Unfortunately it is just setting for meals and not drinks.

This beautiful estate perfectly sums up the “chocolate box Lake District”, and as well as being a great place to start stunning walks, the cafe is also excellent. They use local produce (including from their own kitchen garden which inspired Beatrix Potter’s Mr McGregor!) and always produce food that is interesting and tasty. You can’t pre-book, so in our experience we would recommend that you arrive just before popular eating times to guarantee a seat. Ideal for families and everyone.
