What the haunting melody “Varaha nadhi kari oram”, by of A R Rahman does to your ears Berijam lake does to your eyes. In fact both are same. It starts here as the lake before flowing down as the river and joining Vaigai river. What started as military projects by Hamilton in 1864 later morphed into in water reservoir and micro-watershed project and later transformed into water supply and irrigation scheme for the plains. Don’t be fooled by Hamilton Fort. Is a small room dilapidated structure. However, it was closed for a public visit for an exceptionally long time. In the year 1990, it was again opened for public tours, but there was a limitation on the number of tourists entering into the lake. So plan ahead and get the forest permission. This is the remote most forest lake in Kodai. You will need to take a forest permit for your car the day before you visit this lake. Alternatively, the forest department ferries small 15 seater vans from Moir Point during the day to visit Berijam lake and other tourist points inside the Forest reserve area. A must see if you are a nature lover. Don't forget to apply for a forest permit a day before from the forest office located in Kodaikanal town
