    Shanklin Manor

    Shanklin Manor dates back to the Doomsday Book and has previously been a house and farm, being the home to the various Lords of the Shanklin Manor for many years. It was purchased by the local council in the early 20th century, with much of the land put into public ownership, such as Big Meade park and Shanklin Cricket Club, with the house sold on to the Workers’ Travel Association for a hotel for the underprivileged and then turned into a luxurious hotel in 1979. It has now been extensively renovated and restored to bring it back to its former glory, as well as meet the demands of the modern world. The duplex apartment comprises of two large bedrooms, one a master double bedroom with ensuite and the second twin bedroom, as well as a family bathroom, all on the first floor. There is also a toilet on the ground floor. All of the bedrooms benefit from parkland and woodland views, as well as views across farmland. The living area on the ground floor is spacious and open plan, with separate seating area with leather sofas and a home cinema and music system with LCD TV, HD DVD/CD player, Freeview, mobile/tablet jack and radio tuner, with speakers and controls in all bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a dining area and kitchen. The kitchen includes an integrated dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, oven, hob and microwave, all with a granite worksurface and kitchen lighting. The grounds and gardens extend out to 2 acres, with a listed walled garden and summerhouse, as well as a private gate for access the adjacent picturesque parkland. Just next door is Shanklin Cricket Club, where you can enjoy a summer’s afternoon watching the action, as well as the Big Meade park surrounding the manor, with open grassland, a duck pond and children’s play area. Finally, the historic St Blasius’ Church can be found at the entrance to Shanklin Manor, which was the former church to the manor and dates back to 12th century. Just five minutes walk away is the Old Village, with the famous thatched cottages and a selection of local shops, pubs and restaurants, and the main town centre following afterwards. Finally, it is just five minutes walk from the cliff top and Esplanade with its sandy beaches.

    Highlands takes its name from the imposing Victorian residence that stood on the cliff top site for over 100 years. Originally built for the Lord Mayor of London, Sir James Thomson Ritchie, and subsequently used by Reverend William Page Roberts, Bishop of Salisbury, for his final years, it was later owned by the McAuslane family, who turned it into a well known hotel. After its closure, it was then used by Upper Chine School for its final years. After being left for a decade, the current Highlands was then constructed, a grand and impressive mock Georgian manor house that lived up to its predecessor in terms of scale and views across Shanklin. However, it was never finished and derelict, open to the elements, for a decade. Now, after an extensive refurbishment and conversion, it is now restored into 5 spacious, luxurious apartments. Each of the apartments offer their own quirks and special features, from the penthouse’s unique roof top conservatory and balcony with its fantastic views to the annexe’s duplex apartment, the property is spread across four levels from the garden to the penthouse with annexe to side. The property benefits from spectacular panoramic sea, town and countryside views around the building, going across to Sandown Bay, Shanklin town and the Downs towards Ventnor. All of the apartments benefit from oak furniture and leather sofas, oak floored living areas with fitted kitchens with granite worktops and all your key appliances, 32″ LED TV with Freesat and DVD and free wifi. Communal gardens are available for all apartments to enjoy with seating available alongside off road parking and cycle parking bays. For apartment 5, the property is a garden floor apartment accessed via own entrance and direct access to communal garden. It has king with ensuite and twin bedrooms, as well as a bathroom and open plan lounge/dining/kitchen. Apartments 1, 2, 3 and 4 are also available to book individually or in any combination for larger groups. The property is found on the coastal path between Shanklin and Sandown and just down the road from National Trust land and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also a few minutes walk from the picturesque Old Village and its thatched cottages, plus shops, pubs, restaurants and the main town, as well as the cliff top, Esplanade and Shanklin’s beaches.

    The Priory is an impressive former Gentlemen’s residence, which dates back to 1864 and has been lovingly restored as superior apartments. Surrounding The Priory is National Trust and farmland, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and many coastal walks, all waiting to be explored. Just five minutes walk away is the Old Village, with the famous thatched cottages and a selection of local shops, pubs and restaurants, and the main town centre following afterwards. Finally, it is just a few minutes from the cliff top and Esplanade with its sandy beaches.
