Step back in time to a hilltop house with views across the city through picture windows. Exposed brick and the extensive use of natural wood maintain a mid-century atmosphere, enhanced by period furnishings and gleaming softwood floors throughout. The House Manual provides information about Jack's, as we call our house. We do not host guests with accompanying pets and smoking on any part of the house and property is not acceptable. If these rules are not to your liking then please do not book. Jack's Place is an original 1960's architect designed house. A master bedroom with direct access to the bathroom (en-suite except it is the only one!). The second bedroom features jarrah flooring and exposed brick wall. The living area features a unique view across the City especially at night. Functional kitchen and laundry, air conditioning and heating. The rental terms are for the whole house but if a couple book then it is expected only one bedroom is used. On booking it is best to clarify if both bedrooms are required. If not we do not make up the second bed. Jack's Place is a free standing brick residence with its own car space. There is a walled courtyard and front lawn area/garden (yet to be fully developed ). Cate and I live behind Jack's Place and both properties share a driveway. Naturally the drive must be kept clear at all time. This 1962 house is in Golden Point, an old area in the City of Ballarat, about 125 kilometers west of Melbourne. These days the architecture of the area varies from 1860s dwellings, California bungalows, and modern high-density residences. Ballarat's main street is Sturt St. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre and less to major supermarkets. Parking in town is charged via meter all week. On the edge of the central business district parking is free. Parking around the restaurant area of Armstrong St is difficult. My advice is to walk to dinner and Uber home. Local buses are confusing. Only a few minutes away is The Grapes Hotel, friendly and reliable. Ballarat weather can be variable. I have no control over the weather! We are perched about 375 metres above sea level, cold in Winter and hot in Summer. Summer nights tend to cool down. To keep the house warm and you comfortable, draw the blinds and turn on the heating. There are electric panel heater available in the house. Be very aware that they are not suitable for use when young children are part of the guest party. To cool the house, draw the blinds, close all windows and unnecessary doors and set the cooling for 10C below the outside temperature.

Miners Cottage on Barkly

Step back in time and discover how miners lived in Ararat during the late 1890s. This beautifully preserved miner’s cottage offers a unique dual experience, blending heritage charm with contemporary convenience. The front section of the cottage features two comfortable modern bedrooms with modern furnishing. The rear bedroom has been carefully set up to replicate true mining-era living, offering a raw immersive historical stay. The rear bedroom stay is not recommended for the faint-hearted.

Relax on the property or use it as a base for bush walking in the nearby Mount Cole State forest or visiting the Pyrenees wineries. Abundant wildlife including wallabies, echidnas & a wide assortment of birdlife. 15 km from Beaufort. Cosy cast iron chiminea on the deck; firewood supplied. EV Car charger. Sadly, the historic meditation temple (c.1995) was destroyed in the February 2024 bushfire.

Wander through the trees to our handcrafted Shack, lovingly built from recycled materials, with breathtaking panoramic views over our regenerative farm to the mountains beyond. Inside snuggle by the wood heater, outside relax on a hand hewn red gum deck with built-in bath, outdoor shower. The outhouse provides views across the wetlands and its wildlife! Gariwerd walks are a 10 minute stroll away, as is good coffee, the local brewery and the eateries of Halls Gap. Come and connect!

101 Love Shack

Our rustic 1903 mud-brick studio is made from river sand and mud sourced from the local Great Western area. The studio was built as a fruit kitchen by the Patching family who owned and operated a number of orchards along Concongella Creek and Salt Creek. The fruit kitchen has been recently renovated into a 1-bed studio which offers history and modern comforts. The cottage is surround by farm land meaning there is an abundance of animals to watch and enjoy, including Kangaroos.
