A well preserved tea house from the Edo period. Currently still in operation. Tayū, a title only granted to the highest ranked geisha, is trained here. Reference from old customers is needed to enter.

1688年にできた置屋兼揚屋が今でも残っています。昔太夫や芸妓さんなどがいたようです。現在もお茶屋さんとして営業しているため通常中には入れませんが、時々一般公開されることもあるようです。京都市指定有形文化財に指定されています。 [Wachigai-ya] This is a past geshas' house and high-classed restaurant built in 1688. Now you can only see its appearance but its architectual style is beautiful. This is Kyoto City's cultural prperty.

島原遊郭内に有り、日本最古のお茶屋兼置屋。現在も営業中。毎年11月第２日曜日には太夫道中が挙行される。
