With nearly 600 acres of wooded dunes just off the Lake Michigan shoreline, and 10 miles of hiking trails that link all the way from North Beach Park to PJ Hoffmaster State Park, this is a great location to view the natural wonder of the parabolic dune formations. There are picnic tables, modern restrooms, and ungroomed cross-country ski trails as well. Dogs are allowed on leash, but not in park buildings, off trails, or on the dune steps. Open April 1 to October 31 from 7 am to 10 pm, and November 1 to March 31 from 7 am to 8 pm. No entry fee. From US-31, take the Ferrysburg exit west on to 3rd Street to North Shore Drive. Turn west on North Shore and travel just over one mile to the Ottawa Sands entrance (a tenth of a mile west of City of Ferrysburg’s Coast Guard Park). Overflow parking is available at North Beach Park (lot not plowed in the winter) and Coast Guard Park.
