The palace is located on a manmade island on the outskirts of the old town centre of Köpenick with construction beginning in the 17th century. Since the 1960's the Palace has been used as an art gallery, focussing on the decorative arts of the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods.

Das Schloss an sich und der Schlosspark sind schon sehenswert. In dem Schloss befindet sich aber auch ein Kunstgewerbemuseum, das auch sehenswert ist.
