During Sweden's time as a great power, this place was one of the country's most important armories. The old forges are still preserved and you can also visit the blacksmith shop.

Wira Mill, located 20 km north of Åkersberga, was one of Sweden's most important weapons forges during the time of great power. Today, Wira is a living working environment with smithies and cottages along the Wira River. Today, Wira Mill is an idyll with well-preserved forges and red cottages. But during the 17th century, the mill was one of Sweden's most important weapons forges. Among other things, swords that Charles XII's men used in the war were forged here.

Historical gunsmith founded around 1630. Today there is three smiths working at Wira and you can still visit the old forges. The Wira Bruk restaurant is located in a building that was used as a tavern already in the 1700. One of the oldest buildings in Roslagen.

Wira Bruk is dear to my heart as I spent my weekends, holidays, and summers here as a child. It is a beautiful place to visit with lots of history, a museum and a café. The whole place is like a living museum. From Visit Stockholms website: "For 140 years, between 1635 and 1775, Wira Bruk was Sweden's most important smithy supplying the Swedish army with sharp blades. As time went on the smithy pivoted its production to farm tool, like axes and scythes, until it closed down in the 1960's. Today, Wira Bruk is a museum where visitors can get a glimpse of it's storied production and learn more about the lives of the people that lived and died here."
