This bar is the next really big step in the direction of progressive cocktails. They are doing some really cool stuff, like using centrifuges to clarify things, and just really sort of far out there. If you go, you got to ask for Joe Rob. He’s the head bartender and one of the partners, and is probably there all of his waking hours. All of the bartenders there are extremely competent, but Joe Rob is the man.

The best bar for specialty cocktails in the city. Very small and typically has a wait for up to an hour, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Suggestion: put your name in (they'll text you) and go down the decorated alley (called the Belt) to a bar called "The Skip" to have a drink there. Save your appetite for small plates or a meal at the Stanby though! Oh, and try the "Unce Unce" drink if you like smoky and citrus flavors.

There must be something with Detroit and cool cocktail bars tucked in alleys. Standby is another - not to be missed - craft cocktail experience destination. Standby is located in "The Belt" - a formerly desolate alley which has been transformed into one of the most dynamic pedestrian-friendly public spaces in all of Detroit. Standby also features a full menu and late night snacks offered until 2am.
