Just behind the castle, the parc Bois Pouvreau, great for running, a walk, or going out on the mountainbikes. Also fishing in the huge lake in the middle. Or go for lunch there at a restaurant overlooking the lake: see above restaurants, Le Donjon.

Nice for a day or half a day, taking a boat out in le Marais Poitevin, the so called Green Venice, canals passing through wetlands and woodlands, visiting old towns and Abbey’s. You can be punted or row yourself. Nice place to start and take a boat: the village of Arcais.

One of the bigger historic cities around, old university town, at 40 min drive. Great for shopping, having lunch, dinner, cinema, or visiting one of the oldest Roman Churches in France (11th century)

At 900 meters from the house, there is the village of Menigoute. You have a pharmacy, a bakery, and grocery-shop Spar, including an award winning butcher with the Spar-shop. There is also an ATM at the local bank. And just outside the village a petrol-station. If you want to for bigger stores: the closest is at Saint-Maixent-l'Ecole at a 15 drive.
