Craft beers and restaurant. What they say about themselves: Like with our handcrafted beers, you won’t find any packet-mix nonsense in our kitchen restaurant, it’s all about fistfuls of freshness. So fresh in fact we pluck the fruit and veg from our own kitchen garden as much as we can. We bake our own bread and make our own sauces. Our eggs are laid by our free roaming brewery chooks. If you listen, you’ll hear they hiccup rather than cluck.
And just at walking distance, how convenient ;-)

Long for a great work out and 360 degrees view? This is the place to go, 700 steps up the hill, our local gym. A picturesque waterfall is an easy walk down the board walk, with glowworms at night. Great local, hidden gem.

30 Thorps Quarry RdLong for a great work out and 360 degrees view? This is the place to go, 700 steps up the hill, our local gym. A picturesque waterfall is an easy walk down the board walk, with glowworms at night. Great local, hidden gem.
Great local farm park, a beautiful 6km walk up and down the hills, with stunning views. Absolutely recommended. Can get muddy in winter time, so good shoes are essential.

Beautiful beaches along the way and at Maraetai, low water levels at low tide, so google the tides. Lovely scenery, great for a safe swim, or bring the boat/kayak/waterskies/paddleboard. Can get busy over the Christmas holiday period. Lovely cafes and restaurants at Maraetai, great place for brunch or lunch, a pizza at night, or an ice-cream to cool down. A absolute gotta-go.

Lovely cafes and restaurants at Maraetai, great place for brunch or lunch, a pizza at night, or an ice-cream to cool down. A absolute gotta-go.

No cafes, so bring a picnic or snack and water bottle. There are toilet facilities and in summertime, it's lovely to go for a swim, do expect the locals there too at the weekend. Shoe cleaning stations, due to the Kauri dieback disease, cannot be avoided so think about that when you consider the type of shoes you want to be wearing.
A great place to go for a quick or extended nature fix. There are multiple bushwalk options there and more in the area, so if you want to go back for more after your first visit, consult dr Google :-)

Every 3rd Sunday of the month is 'live-day' when a large group of volunteers bring the village, which is set up to depict the lives of the Fencibles - early settlers of the 1840s-1860s, to life with meals cooked on the coal range, the blacksmith at work, sausages cooked over the fire in the pub, 56th regiment re-enactments, hand crafts, 1840s candy shop and more. Absolutely worth spending the day, it's always better when the sun is shining of course, but even on a rainy day there is plenty to see and do. It's truly like stepping back in time. Highly recommended.
There is an entrance fee, an onsite cafe and souvenir shop.
