Cool atmospheric bar in Kanazawa. The Japanese owner, Mango, speaks great English, and is witty and interesting. He'll also give a discount to people staying with me! (15 minutes walk).

Great cheap bar. Masaya the barman speaks some English & is ultra-friendly. He'll cook a great spaghetti for you - try some of the Japanese flavours - for around 900yen (You may bump into Gary here!)

Food Scene

This is a wonderful Izakaya. Kanazawa is well-known for having possibly the best sea-food in Japan, and Miyuki has a great menu at a reasonable price (~ 3,000yen). You'd pay at least double in Tokyo!

A great budget choice with a menu in English. Yakitori is a favorite amongst visitors and this is an atmospheric fun (and loud) place right beside the canal near the samurai district.
