Eating out

Loved by locals and budget conscious tourists. Right on the roadside, but the fish BBQ is sensational in quality and value. You can wait a while, but the drinks aren’t over-priced so you can people-watch and relax.

In our view the best 5* Hotel on the Island. It has a choice of eateries, 'The Nest' is great for lunch, but the main restaurant can be expensive for dinner. A great day out can be had by arriving several hours before your lunch booking and walking across the golf course to Anse Georgette, which is Conde Nast 'world's most beautiful beach'. Take the usual beach equipment and be prepared for a stiff walk. You may be asked to park outside the main gate.

The Confait family have, for decades, been the best Creole chefs on the island. They have built a new restaurant with a fabulous view of the ocean with floodlit rocks in the foreground and Mahe on the horizon. This place is rightly Trip Advisor's best restaurant. It is a nice, calm place to enjoy a cocktail and swim before your meal. The portions are large.... so take a sizeable appetite! It is on the right of the road from Grand Anse to Anse Consolation before

Excellent Creole food with sensible prices and efficient service from polite and well trained staff. I’ve never heard anyone complain about a meal from here. The Chef is ex Lemuria and the ability shines through with unexpected flavours and textures.

On the left heading toward the airport and open from early to late with everything from healthy breakfasts to huge Lobster served with well chosen wines in the evening. A new business, they are nice people and we hope it thrives.

Look for the No 1 Coffee shop, a ‘go to’ place for breakfast/light lunch takeaway salads and excellent panini.

Sightseeing

A visitor centre is open with displays that give you a good understanding of how special this World Heritage Site is. A guided tour is much better than fighting your way around yourself and missing once in a lifetime opportunities to see flora & fauna that is endemic; and sometimes particular to these few square miles of rainforest. Be prepared for a stiff walk. You may even see a rare Black Parrot! There is a good walk which starts on the left side of the road a few hundred metres before the visitor centre if travelling from Baie St. Anne. It may be signposted as Glacis Noir.

There is a beautiful guided walk along the Fond Ferdinand Trail signposted off the coast road near Anse Consolation. When last we checked the charge was 15Euro. It involves over 600 steps, takes about 2hrs and includes an entertaining and informative guide. Take water, walking shoes and a hat.

The ultimate day out on Praslin is spent on Joel Confait's Island Cat. Island Cat is a luxury catamaran and Joel's son Joshua is a highly qualified and engaging skipper. The food he provides throughout the day is 5star Kreol and there are soft drinks included. He will take you to several of the local islands and/or circumnavigate Praslin
