Sightseeing

Just a 5 minute walk down Hodgson St will lead you to our local Sequoia Park and Zoo. A trail head drops into the forest from Hodgson and will lead you into a small but exciting series of trails and sights. At the other end of the forest, which is home to some very impressive Redwood trees, is the Zoo. A great family attraction that also features a sky walk through the trees. The park is perfect for a quick Redwood adventure, without having to get in the car.

Drive across the Samoa Bridge toward the ocean. Once across, hang a left out toward the ocean. Along the way are plenty of coastal access pullouts, with the Samoa Dunes and recreation area at the far south end of the penninsula. But just before you reach that fantastic coastal recreation zone, the Humboldt Bay Social club is on your right. It's a really cool spot with out door fire pits, oysters for sale and drinks. They also have really good food on site. This is one of our favorite places to go with or without our kids. There is a huge, old runway where kids can ride bikes while you relax. Very cool spot.

The sister location to the other Old Town Coffee and Chocolates, but even closer to the house. This coffee shop location is in the quieter district known as Henderson Center. The coffee shop is a great walking destination from our house for morning coffee, sweets or sandwiches. Also located on F Street, this small business district has a few restaurants, a toy store, a bike shop, a pet shop, ice cream and some good thrift shops.

This is our go-to for quick grocery grabs. Just five minutes from the house, this store is small and has a good selection of deli case foods and all your other grocery needs. It's a locally owned, small grocery chain in the area.
