Pete's Diner is a no-thrills solid short order grill that is a favorite of locals on the Hill for good cheap eats. If you are walking towards the Capitol in the morning and want a quick breakfast to start your day this is a good spot if you want a classic diner experience.

Canal Park is a lovely outdoor/indoor venue within 10 minutes walking of the house. In the winter there is an ice skating ring and the summer there is a large splash pad fountain. The park offers great casual food options with Wise Guy Pizza, Khin's Sushi, Altani Gelato and Five Guys burgers.

Smoke & Mirrors sits on top of the AC Marriott Hotel and offers a wonderful view of the U.S. Capitol. It is an upscale trendy atmosphere where you can dine or get drinks. I recommend getting a reservation on the upstairs patio for drinks and apps, but they also have an outdoor bar which doesn't require reservations and will give you the same great view. Call before going to make sure the rooftop patio is open.

The most iconic building in DC! The Capitol is a beautiful building inside and out and is most definitely worth a visit. The visitor center will give you a good tour of the building, but calling your congressperson's office will often produce a tour from staff or an intern and give you much better access! You'll pass their offices when walking to the capitol from our house. Reservations through the visitor center or your representatives office are recommended. https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/plan-visit https://www.house.gov/representatives

Navy Yard offers plenty of restaurants, bars, beer gardens and cafe's to keep you entertained. Take a walk down to The Yards waterfront for drinks and enjoy the scenic views of the Anacostia River and the Frederick Douglas Bridge. From there you are only a short walk to Nationals Park to catch a baseball game or Audi Field to watch DC United soccer.
