Pete's Diner is a no-thrills solid short order grill that is a favorite of locals on the Hill for good cheap eats. If you are walking towards the Capitol in the morning and want a quick breakfast to start your day this is a good spot if you want a classic diner experience.

The park offers great casual food options with Wise Guy Pizza, Khin's Sushi, Altani Gelato and Five Guys burgers.
Smoke & Mirrors sits on top of the AC Marriott Hotel and offers a wonderful view of the U.S. Capitol.

I recommend getting a reservation on the upstairs patio for drinks and apps, but they also have an outdoor bar which doesn't require reservations and will give you the same great view. Call before going to make sure the rooftop patio is open.

This wonderful building is a hidden gem. Its great hall has some of the most beautiful architecture and art of any building in Washington and its a short walk away. This is a great spot to start your day on the national mall.

Every Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon you can head over to Eastern market for a great brunch and follow it up by browsing the open air market to find local food, art, clothing and other unique goods. A great spot to pickup some unique DC souvenirs.

The visitor center will give you a good tour of the building, but calling your congressperson's office will often produce a tour from staff or an intern and give you much better access! You'll pass their offices when walking to the capitol from our house.
