São Bento Train Sation- 9 minutes walk from the apartment (700m). The first train arrived here in 1896, but the building (designed with a French Renaissance touch) was only officially inaugurated in 1916 where a convent once stood. The funicular railway will gently take down the steep cliff from Batalha ( on the higher ground of central Porto) to the quayside at Ribeira. It is only 3 minute journey and the view over the Douro and the spectacular metal bridge is well worth it.
