Enjoy a trail through the foothills on the Calaveras (south) side of the Middle Bar Bridge. Drive slowly on the bumpy one lane paved road down to an early 1900s bridge at Middle Bar, cross the bridge, park on the left and take a hike on the well maintained trail. Middle Bar is the only bridge that you can legally fish off of in the state of CA. Large trout are routinely caught from the bridge. The water under the bridge is the Mokelumne River, or Pardee Reservoir, depending on how full the reservoir is. This is 90% of the water for the East Bay Area.
