Of course, the main part of your holiday will be spent in Turkey and around the wonderful Bodrum Peninsula... However, there are daily boat trips to Kos which take around 40 minutes, they offer opportunity to explore the history of Kos or kick back and dabble in Greek culture too. If you are missing home shopping, there is a Lidl in Kos which you can do a little shop in a bring back over. One thing to note, you will find Kos considerably more expensive than Bodrum.

The marina in Yalıkavak is where lots of high-flyers from around the world come into port. In 2020 we saw one of the world's most luxury, and expensive yachts come into port. There are also lots of shopping and eating opportunities. It is a lovely place to explore, a lot more flashy than the other areas along the Peninsula.

Gümüşlük is a quaint and vibrant little village. There are many fresh fish restaurants to be found here (however beware with such a beautiful surrounding the price tag is fitting). You can also find many treasures to take home as souvenirs or simply sit around with a beer or coffee in one of the many stylish places along the shore.

Sightseeing

This ancient amphitheatre is still used to this day. During the summer it is home to some of Turkeys biggest performance acts, pop stars, bands and rappers alike. When there are not summer performances, during the day you are able to enter and explore the ruins and take photos. The views from the Amphitheatre are amazing as it is situated high up on the hill opposite the sea.

Being the artefact that dominates the Bodrum Coastline, it really is unmissable. It is also open to visitors, recently it has undergone some restoration work to the main building and also to the attached Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Explore the inside of the castle, read about the history and then pop over to Trafo, the new Cafe/Events areas opened by the Council for unbeatable views of the sea.

Years ago Bodrum's docks were full of sponge divers, people when out diving for pieces of natural sea sponge to bring back and sell. This Museum of Underwater Archeology is full of artefacts found under the sea, at first by them and then later by archaeologists. There even stands the jewellery of the Carian Princess in the 300s BC on display. If you're into history then this is surely an unmissable place to visit.

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

'Dolmuş' buses

Dolmuş buses only pick up from certain stops, if you are waiting for a bus and they do not stop this will be because either they are too full to take more passengers OR that bus does not pick up from the stop you are at. If you wait long enough, a bus will take you.

Getting a Taxi

If you should need a taxi during your stay you will notice many taxi ranks on corners. These taxis are completely safe as they are all registered with the council. They run on a meter so you can constantly see how much your trip is costing you. I advise against taking a ride from any taxi which is not a yellow, council registered taxi as these are illegal.
Costumbres y cultura

Hugging and Kissing

If you find yourself interacting with locals you will find they are very friendly. It is custom to hug and kiss people to greet them. However, if you are uncomfortable a simple shake of the hand is still polite.

Look around before you buy

Shopping streets throughout the Peninsula have cheap branded goods anything from your Nike sneakers to Hermes handbags. These products vary in quality and also in price. Check out a couple of different places for the same item before you buy. And don't forget to haggle a little, you're in Turkey after all! (But don't be too cheeky it may be seen as disrespectful by the seller)

Photo Opportunities

There are so many beautiful places for you to discover along the Bodrum Peninsula. For example, the huge BODRUM sign at the Marina outside the council (belediye) building. This among lots of other little spots are great for taking photos to reminisce upon in the future.
Qué debes empacar

What clothes do I pack?

During the summer months, it is acceptable to wander around wearing shorts, bear in mind, however, that stores and restaurants require a shirt and shoes to enter. İn the cooler months, a light sweater/jersey or pashmina throw are recommended for your evening stroll.

What to say?

Whilst many Turks in the tourist areas of Bodrum speak a second language, a small pocket dictionary or translation app will be very handy. Try out your Turkish on the locals, they will be charmed.
