It takes a while to travel in Portland, as the city streets were built for travel by horse. You might notice horse tie ups on the street corners throughout the city. Because our streets are so narrow, it's difficult to see around the parked cars. Look, inch out, and look again! Always check your mirrors, especially side mirrors, as you might just find a bicycle flying past your door as you're attempting to park. Pedestrians here tend to talk on their cells phones while crossing the street in a crosswalk (especially downtown) and don't always bother to look for cars. Be alert!
