The Colosseum, originally known as Amphitheatrum Flavium (in Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio) or simply as Amphitheatrum, is the largest amphitheater in the world [, located in the center of the city of Rome. Able to contain an estimated number of spectators between 50,000 and 75,000 units, it is the most important Roman amphitheater, and the most impressive monument of ancient Rome that has come down to us, known throughout the world as a symbol of the city of Rome and one of the symbols of Italy. Inserted in 1980 in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, together with all the historical center of Rome, the extraterritorial zones of the Holy See in Italy and the Basilica of Saint Paul outside the walls, in 2007 the complex, the only European monument, it was also included among the New Seven Wonders of the World, following a competition organized by New Open World Corporation (NOWC). The amphitheater was built in the Flavian period on an area on the eastern edge of the Roman Forum. Its construction was started by Vespasian in 72 AD and inaugurated by Tito in 80, with further modifications made during the empire of Domitian in 90. The building forms an ellipse of 527 m of perimeter, with axes that measure 187.5 and 156.5 m. The arena measures 86 × 54 m, with an area of 3,357 m². The current height reaches 48.5 m, but originally it reached 52 m. The structure clearly expresses the Roman architectural and construction concepts of the early Imperial Age, based respectively on the curved and enveloping line offered by the elliptical plan and on the complexity of the construction systems. Arches and vaults are linked together in a tight structural relationship. The name "Colosseum" spread only in the Middle Ages and derives from the popular deformation of the Latin adjective "colosseum" (translatable as "colossal", as it appeared in the early Middle Ages between the one or two storey houses) [3] or, more probably from the proximity of the colossal bronze statue of Nero that stood nearby. Soon the building became a symbol of the imperial city, an expression of an ideology in which the celebratory will comes to define models for the entertainment and entertainment of the people. In ancient times it was used for gladiatorial shows and other public events (hunting shows, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on classical mythology). The tradition that wants it to be a place of martyrdom of Christians is groundless . No longer in use after the sixth century, the enormous structure was variously reused over the centuries, even as a material quarry. Today it is a symbol of the city of Rome and one of its major tourist attractions in the form of a regularly visited archaeological monument. Today his health conditions are of concern, given that studies on its structure have highlighted over 3,000 injuries and an extensive crack state. Furthermore, in 2012 a 40 cm inclination of the structure was discovered, probably due to a collapse of the foundation bed on which it rests . In 2018, the Colosseum, Foro Romano and Palatino archaeological circuit received 7 650 519 visitors, making it the second most visited Italian state museum site (the first among the paid ones), behind the Pantheon .

The Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano or Cathedral of Rome, 10 MINUTES ON FOOTThe Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano or Cathedral of Rome, full name Papal Archbasilica of the Most Holy Savior and of Saints John the Baptist and Evangelist in Lateran (in Latin Archibasilica Sanctissimi Salvatoris et Sanctorum Ioannis Baptistae and Ioannis Evangelistae in Lateran) is the cathedral of the diocese of Rome, currently governed by Pope Francis through the cardinal archpriest Angelo De Donatis. It is the first of the four major papal basilicas and the oldest and most important basilica of the West . Located on the Celio hill, the basilica is the material representation of the Holy See, which has its residence here. Inside there is in fact the Chair of St. Peter, or the throne on which in theory the Pope sits as a monarch of the State of Vatican City. The basilica and the vast surrounding complex (including the Pontifical Palace of the Lateran, the Palazzo dei Canonici, the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary and the Pontifical Lateran University) enjoy the privileges of extraterritoriality recognized by the Italian Republic to the Holy See which therefore has the full and exclusive jurisdiction. The official name is "Papal Archbasilica of the Most Holy Savior and of the Saints John the Baptist and Evangelist in Lateran" . Pope Sylvester I, in the fourth century, dedicated it to the Holy Savior; then Pope Sergius III, in the ninth century, added the dedication to St. John the Baptist; finally Pope Lucius II, in the 12th century, including also Saint John the Evangelist . It is called "arcibasilica" because it is the most important of the four major papal basilicas ; more precisely, it has the honorary title of Omnium Urbis et Orbis Ecclesiarum Mater et Caput, or Mother and Head of all the churches in the city and in the world . Finally it is called "in Laterano", or "Lateran"; Lateranus was a cognomen of the gens Claudia , and in the area where the basilica arose there were estates (horti) of that family.

The papal archbasilica major Liberian archpriest of Santa Maria Maggiore, known simply as "Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore" or "Liberian basilica" (because on its site it was thought there was a building of worship erected by Pope Liberius, what however denied by investigations carried out under the pavement), is one of the four papal basilicas of Rome, situated on the top of the Esquiline hill, on the peak of the Cispio, between the Rione Monti and the Esquilino. It is the only basilica of Rome to have preserved the primitive early Christian structure, albeit enriched by successive additions.

The hill was the seat of one of the villages from which Rome was built, and the memory of this sort of civil nobility was still alive in the Republican era, according to an inscription found at the Sette Sale, at the Baths of Trajan, which mentions the restoration of the sacellum compitale done at the expense of the inhabitants (de pecunia montanorum)]. In the Augustan subdivision of the city, Mons Oppius was included in Regio III, called Isis et Serapis from the great temple that stood on its south-eastern slopes, between today's Via Labicana and Via Merulana. Already home (in the direction of the Vicus Suburanus) of the Portico of Livia, the height was occupied in the Neronian era by the Domus aurea and by the subsequent Terme di Tito and Traiano. In the Christian era, the Titulus Eudoxiae (today's San Pietro in Vincoli) and the Titulus Equitii (now San Martino ai Monti) settled there. Today it belongs to the Monti district, of which it is the green lung, and is between Via Labicana, via degli Annibaldi, via Cavour, via Giovanni Lanza, via Merulana. The surrounding streets were intensely built between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, while the archaeological emergencies (as far as they remained, at least from the plundering) were included in the vast Parco del Colle Oppio, which descends towards the Colosseum valley.

Monti is the first district of Rome, indicated with R. I. 15 MIN ON FOOT The name derives from the fact that the term li monti (mountain) meant the vast area, little inhabited, which included the Esquiline Hill, the Viminal, part of the Quirinal and the Celio up to the border of the Aurelian Walls. Today the Quirinale, Castro Pretorio and the Celio no longer belong to him, but the name has remained.

The building was born on the initiative of an ichthyologist, Pietro Garganico, who around 1880 presented to the Municipality a project to build a structure intended together with a pisciculture and aquarium plant, whose construction was initially planned for via Nazionale.   After some time, however, we find the project at the Esquilino district, in those years one of the centers of the massive urbanization of the Umbertine that centered on Piazza Vittorio. In 1882 the municipality thus gave a free concession to Garganico, to build the building destined to become an aquarium, the green land of Piazza Manfredo Fanti, a block that, left free of constructions, became thanks to this destination above all recreational, on the model of the Parisian squares, also enriched on the outside by "aquatic" furnishings (small lake, bridges). Here is the history of the partisans, World War II. There are a lot of pictures, pictures, especially in the deportees' cells there are hand-written pens with pens or engraved on the wall! Impressive the sandwich of a deportee with "courage mum" written on it! But there is so much to see and hear! I recommend it! Free admission, ask for an offer to keep the museum! If you read some professor, I advise you to bring the boys! A small museum to see absolutely. Made in the former prisons of the SS in Rome. Maintained as intact as it was then. A path for the soul. Very little advertised and very rarely visited. It should be seen not to lose memory. CENTRAL MARKET ITALIAN FOOD AND DRINK AT 13 MINUTES ON FOOT The Central Market Rome is reality: the "Mazzoniana hood" is given new life " There is a new market in Rome. The historic kitchen of the railwaymen is located at number 36 of Via Giolitti, inside the "Cappa Mazzoniana". At Termini the successful project of the Central Market of Florence is revisited. The artisans of taste thus contribute to redeveloping an important urban setting. From 5 October, open to the public from 7 to 24. A RETURN TO THE ORIGINS - "We have regenerated a very difficult place and it still does not seem true that we have succeeded - repeats Umberto Montano in the press conference presenting the new market - in this place, the quality of the products made by the artisans reigns. shelving, there is no large-scale distribution - recalls Montano, the entrepreneur who conceived the project - this is a way to recover the taste of making quality purchases, which is a bit lost with the arrival of the supermarkets " . THE ARTISANS - Under and around the gray-pink marble of the Cappa Mazzoniana, built in the 1930s, there are nineteen artisan businesses. There are the desserts and pizzas of Bonci, the fresh fish of the Antica Pescheria Salluzzi and the meat of the Roman butcher Liberati. There are also fresh cheeses and pastas, a restaurant, a kiosk for vegetarians and vegans, and the trapizzino pizza triangles. On the second floor of the Cappa, a space was also created, to host events and culinary presentations. THE DESTINATION OF USE - "We were able to carry out an intervention without damaging the origin of this place, dedicated to the kitchen. We have in fact maintained the original destination of use - it is remembered during the press conference - The station needed it and Rome also ". Especially because, as pointed out, "out of fourteen stations, there are thirteen ones that are subjected to monumental constraints". And, as pointed out by the management of Grandi Stazioni, "we aim at the complete restructuring of the offer for passengers". So the work done at Termini, could have traced a furrow that could soon be replicated in other cities. QUALITY - Even the President of the Rome Capital Trade Commission Andrea Coia (M5s) declares himself satisfied with the result achieved: "We have been invited, but we don't want to take credit because when we arrived in Campidoglio, the project had already been started. However, I must admit, although I am not an architect, that this redevelopment maintains the value of the structure unchanged.I think the connotation that has been given is very appreciable - adds the Capitoline Councilor - they are all local quality and quality is exactly what we would like to bring in the markets of Rome, because the whole city would benefit from it and therefore, obviously, those who live there ".
