Places to eat

Our top suggestions for eating out locally either with the family or on your own.
England's most Southerly cafe with the most fantastic view of the coastline from their outdoor seating area high above the old lifeboat station at Polpeor Cove on Lizard Point. Great for breakfast or lunch with an impressive menu. Tip: Drive through Lizard village and towards the point, ignore all the signs for car parks and just keep going until you reach the small unmarked car park outside the cafe. It is a single track road, so drive carefully and the car park may well be full but it saves paying the high price to park by the lighthouse. Otherwise, park on the village green, put a few pounds in the honesty box and walk down to the point. For us, a visit to Cornwall is never complete without a visit to Polpeor, usually for breakfast on our first day. Also check out the cream teas and donuts, but get in early or you might miss them.

Fantastic pub grub in a cosy traditional Cornish pub. What more can you ask for? As well as a hearty menu of pub favourites and an ever changing specials board, they also offer Scooby Snacks for our four-legged friends.

A huge selection of their own ice cream flavours, and a menu of amazing food, most of it cooked in their wood-fired pizza oven. You can even watch the team cooking your food in their outdoor kitchen at the edge of the old farmyard. Their pulled pork dirty fries are something else, and definitely on the list of our must haves for every trip to Cornwall. There's also animals to see, nature walks, and shopping in The Bull Pen.

A trip to Cornwall is not complete without sampling a proper Cornish Pasty. And none of that supermarket shrink-wrapped stuff you might have tried back home. A PROPER Cornish Pasty, and the best of those come from Ann's Pasties. Be sure to get them early as they will all be gone before you can ask "Where shall we go for lunch?"

Exploring

A few must-see spots that aren't necessarily in the usual guide books.
In the South West corner of our estate you will find a gate directly on to the Windmill Farm Nature Reserve. You should be able to follow the raised boardwalk and path to the Windmill, but when the ground is wet you might find this tricky. Alternatively, walk or drive a third of a mile South towards Lizard village and turn right. Ignore the 'Private Road' sign. At the end of the road go through the gate to a small car park. You will find an Information Centre in one of the barns and you can climb the metal staircase inside the old Lizard Windmill for a fantastic view of the Predannack Downs. There are a number of waymarked trails around the reserve and you can walk right up to the perimeter of Predannack Airfield, where you might see the Royal Navy Fire Service training on the old jet planes and helicopters on the airfield.

Lizard Point is the most southerly tip of mainland Britain. No visit is complete without a walk along this stunning section of the coast path. Visit the Lizard Lighthouse, Polpeor Cafe and gift shops at the point. Pick up a serpentine gift, unique to this part of the world, turned by craftsmen and women in the shops dotted around the point and the village green.

Sightseeing

It's quite a walk to the top, but once you're there the views over the bay to St. Michael's Mount are spectacular. The numerous unique sculptural installations on the way up and back down are amazing, and be sure to look up at the sky from inside the Skyspace. About 40 mins drive away. Dogs are welcome.
