Sightseeing

A nice walk over the bridge and north along the coast (about 30 min) will take you to Norway's national monument. Snorre's sagas of the kings mention the site where Harald Fairhair is buried. In the nineteenth century it was believed the place described by Snorre had been located. This is where the national monument of the unification of Norway was erected in 1872, during the millennial celebrations of Norway's unification into one kingdom. The monument is located 2km north of the town centre.

The most beautiful views over the city of Haugesund and the areas around from this viewpoint. It is also nice to take a small trek to the Kringsjå cabin (nice for families with small children) or to one of the nearby peaks like Presten. Just follow the signs and marked trails :-) A beautiful place to watch the sunset!!!

Parks & Nature

CNN voted Langfoss in Åkrafjorden to be one of the ten most beautiful waterfalls in the world in March 2011. With its 612 m drop (2008 feet), Langfoss is the fifth largest waterfall in Norway. It is located at the end of Åkrafjord. There is an easy-to-climb footpath all the way to the top, where the views are magnificent. CNN: Instead of falling in a straight drop like most waterfalls, Langfoss slips down a cliff, maintaining contact with the rocks the entire way down, before spilling into Akra Fjord. Langfoss isn't the biggest waterfall in Norway, but its combined height (2,008 feet) and width (205 feet) are an impressive combination.

The Viking Farm is situated in beautiful natural surroundings on the island of Bukkøy and is accessible on foot with a 10 minute walk from the Nordvegen History Centre. Here it is possible to see and experience how the Vikings lived. Many buildings typical of Viking times are re-constructed using original techniques and of special interest is the granary and round house from the pre-Christian era. The other buildings are replicas from around 900 AD. Adjacent to the settlement is a pier with a capacity for large boats complete with service building including modern toilet facilities.
