Auckland Castle is one of the UK’s most important historical buildings. Since the days of the Norman Conquest in the 11th Century, Auckland Castle has been a seat of power. For almost 900 years, it has been the palace of the Prince Bishops of Durham and although the site where Auckland Castle now stands has seen numerous changes, few will have been as far reaching and visionary as those which are set to take place in the 21st Century - See more at: http://www.aucklandcastle.org

The Weardale Museum is a small independent folk museum established by volunteers in 1985 to preserve the heritage of Weardale. At the Weardale Museum we have a unique and powerful family history resource - data from censuses, parish records of baptisms, marriages and burials, gravestone inscriptions, wills, newspaper extracts, and many other local sources have been brought together into our formidable genealogical database, “Weardale People”, which we run on a well known commercial family history program, and which currently contains almost 50,000 individuals, from some 300 Weardale families, whose relationships can be displayed as ancestor charts or descendant trees
