The ancient history of the Town Hall of Sintra begins during the Muslim dominion in the Iberian Peninsula. Already mentioned in the eleventh century, the early Moorish palace - property of the Portuguese Crown from the conquest of Lisbon by D. Afonso Henriques (1147), 1st King of Portugal - was first practiced in 1281, during the reign of King Dinis. New constructive bodies are added over time, under the reigns of D. Dinis, D. João I and D. Manuel I, maintaining their silhouette since the middle of the 16th century. Not to miss a visit.

Erected on a rocky massif isolated in one of the summits of the Sintra hills, the top of its walls unfolds a privileged view of all its rural surroundings that extends to the Atlantic Ocean.
When the Muslim Invasion of the Iberian Peninsula, from the 8th century the region was occupied, and its settlement received the name "as-Shantara". Scholars agree that they were responsible for the primitive fortification of the Peneda between the 8th and 9th centuries, in order to strategically control the land routes that connected Sintra to Mafra, Cascais and Lisbon. A must see place to go.

It is also called Monteiro dos Millões Palace, denomination associated with the nickname of its first owner was Antonio Augusto who was distinguished by King Dom Carlos I on August 16, 1904 as Baron de Almeida.
The palace is situated on the slope of the mountain range and at a short distance from the Historic Center of Sintra. It has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 2002.
