Victorian Christmas at Fort Nelson

Fort Nelson invites you to experience a traditional Victorian garrison Christmas, including tours of the Redan and Officer's Mess and areas of the Fort not normally open to the public. The barrack rooms celebration will be part of special tours taking place between December 18 and 23.
Step back in time to meet head cook Private Dobson as he prepares dishes for the festive feast for the garrison and civilian inhabitants of the Fort.
The barrack room will be festively decorated with oranges, cloves and greenery, the original range will be lit and the delicious smell of freshly baked mince pies will fill the air.
In the Officers' Mess visitors will be able to compare the Christmas fare served to the ordinary soldiers and that reserved for the officers, giving an interesting in-sight into life in a Victorian garrison.
Your guide will also describe what life and conditions would have been like in this cold, hilltop fort at mid-winter. As part of the experience, warm mulled wine or non-alcoholic punch will be served as well as one of Private Dobson's famous mince pies, still warm from the range.
£3.50 per person (includes mince pie and mulled wine prepared in Private Dobson's kitchen. Under 5's FREE, includes a mince pie and soft drink).

Event tickets will also include entrance to the Royal Armouries’ national collection of artillery and historic cannon. The museum galleries will be open for visitors to see 700 treasures spanning 600 years of history. Visitors can also enjoy the Victorian fort’s spacious outdoors areas with a walk around our ramparts taking in the spectacular views and exploring the tunnel.
Each session will last approximately 45 minutes.

Preparations are underway for the return of the much anticipated We Create Market, a creative and unique shopping experience, taking place for the first time in Cascades Shopping Centre.
We Create Markets spotlight the exceptional talents of Portsmouth designers, makers, and artists.
52 independent stalls are expected selling a range of holiday gifts. An exhibition of local art and products will also be displayed in the shop window, with decorations created by local schools and community groups, along with live local performances throughout the weekend.

Southsea Santa Run 2023
The Santa fun run is back on Southsea seafront, PO5 3PA. Saturday, 16 December 2023, 10:30am.
There are 5k and 10k routes available, it's free for under 9's to take part and they get a pressie from Santa. If you don't fancy running you can enjoy the atmosphere as a spectator.
