One of my favorite places to hang out and do some people watching. Near the edge of the French Quarter, Envie is a short walk from the property. This is the Lower Decatur Street scene, which is less touristy and frequented more by the locals, but all types of people come to Envie. There's a nice area for smokers to sit outside and watch the constant parade of interesting humanity that is always walking by this great place.

A great little African restaurant in the French Quarter, walking distance from the property. I always take my personal guests there, and even my kids love it. The food there is just amazing, the service is terrific. It should really be more expensive, but it is really very affordable.

Here's a little gem that only the locals know about. It's close but not walking distance, so you'll need a car or cab. Sammy's, in my humble opinion, has the best gumbo in all of New Orleans. And their roast beef po boy is at least in my top 3 (it's hard to pick an absolute favorite). The prices are great, the setting is cafeteria style, but they only keep lunch hours. It's super busy between noon and 1pm, so you may want to time your visit between 2 and 3pm.

Best roast beef debris po boy in the world. The chicken and andoullie gumbo is top notch, too. They have a soup and sandwhich deal where you can get a cup of the gumbo and a six inch po boy for under $10. One of the few things about Bourbon Street that has remained unchanged over the decades is this amazing little diner. Stepping through the door is like walking into another era. The burger's are great, so are the breakfast specialties, and this might be the best place on earth to get a slice of cherry pie a la mode and a cup of coffee. Open 24 hours.

The birthplace of the world famous Muffaletta sandwich is still the best. Get it with a bottle of Barq's root beer for ultimate effect. The place itself is a very old and traditional European style grocery store, but there are diner style countertops if you'd like to have your meal on premises.

An historic bar in a famous old building that got its name because Napoleon once considered hiding out there when his chips were down. It can be crowded, but if you manage to score a place at the bar you are almost certain to sit next to someone with a story to tell. The walls are adorned with portraits of opera singers, which is the style of music that is always played here. A true New Orleans experience.
