Relaxation

Purely for research purposes on behalf of our guests, you understand (!), I recently indulged in a half-day at the new Monart Spa in Poundbury. This spa is small but it packs a whole lot in and - though pricey - I would say that it is value for money for the level of luxury that it offers. The 6 Thermal rooms are great (my favourites; The Sanarium, Aromatic Steam Room and the InfraRed Room), the hydrotherapy pool the perfect temperature, and the relaxation areas luxurious and comfortable. Then I had a 55min Swedish full-body massage. And my goodness it was delightful. probably the best massage I've ever had (and I've had a few!). Lunch was delicious, and it was lovely to see that they use local businesses to supply their meat, cakes, wine, etc. The decor and artwork throughout is second to none, plush and very stylish. If you fancy spoiling yourself during your stay in Dorchester, I can fully recommend this spa and the treatments it offers.

Sightseeing

This is an intriguing place, and can only be visited at weekends generally, when the army aren't firing off the ranges (check this online before you visit). The village was evacuated ready for the army to begin training for the DD boats to be launched, and the villagers were never returned to their homes. The houses, school and other buildings now stand complete (although the roofs of most have gone), with information inside each one about the people that lived there and their way of life. It in fascinating and a bit sad too. There is also access from the far end of the (free, donations welcomed) car park to the beach, were you can walk along Worbarrow bay and marvel at the Jurassic scenery. A great day out to blow away the cobwebs with a bit of history thrown in for good measure. Dogs welcomed, I believe. The car park is locked from 5pm each evening, as far as I know.

Vivo Lounge – www.thelounges.co.uk/vio 01305 251291 We don’t really rate the food here, though they have some good weekday evening deals (Tapas Tuesday, etc.). Great cosy seating, good for a coffee/glass of something/chat. Morrish and Banham – www.morrishandbanham.com 01305 261480 Owned by our friend Mark, this is essentially a wine retailer, but Mark will allow you to buy a bottle to drink on the premises, where he has informal seating. Great value compared to buying a bottle in a restaurant, plus he will probably embroil you in conversation about wines during your time there.
